At over 5.0 GHz, AMD’s Threadripper PRO 5995WX breaks CINEBENCH R23 world record

Chiming in at $6,499, the unreleased Threadripper PRO 5995WX offers 64 threads and 128 cores, and blows through the CINEBENCH R23 world record by 10K points.

CINEBENCH reports a 5.05GHz overclock achieved by using liquid nitrogen to cool the processor down. The 5995WX CPU is part of AMD’s Threadripper PRO series of products, which means it also needs a special workstation motherboard. While TRX40 motherboards are used for consumer Threadripper CPU’s such as the 3990X(that held the previous CINEBENCH R23 world record), a WRX80 chipset motherboard is required for the AMD 5000-series WX Threadripper PRO CPUs. The CPU supports 128GB of DDR4, and in this case it is running at 3200MHz. It also features 128 PCI-E 3.0 lanes and a 280W TDP. The CPU does feature a boost clock of up to 4.5GHz, but that probably is not on all cores.

The CPU-Z Screenshot reveals a 5.15GHz overclock on the AMD Threadripper PRO 5995WX with all 64 cores and 128 threads active. The MSI WS WRX40 motherboard seems to be in working condition, as it was used to achieve this feat. Getting all cores up to 5.05GHz requires some high quality dies, as overclocks with all cores become limited by the lowest clocking core. The CPU is codenamed “Chagall PRO”.
